Friday brought a dramatic change to one of the most popular beaches in the area – Black’s Beach. Lifeguards confirmed that a massive bluff collapse occurred, leaving them scrambling to monitor the situation.

The cliffs surrounding the beach can reach heights of hundreds of feet, yet this landslide is estimated to be 250 feet wide and 25 feet high.

With many tourists visiting Black’s Beach daily, lifeguards have been stationed at the base in pickup trucks to ensure everyone’s safety.

Although locals and tourists alike may notice a dramatic difference, they can rest assured that they are monitored while visiting this beloved beach.

It’s a miracle that there were no reported injuries when a huge section of the hillside collapsed near downtown San Diego on Friday afternoon.

Thankfully, those in the area had enough time to get out of the way when they noticed it beginning to happen; according to a witness, the collapse transpired relatively slowly over several seconds.

Luckily there was no immediate danger posed, as officials estimate the volume of material lost as around 150,000 cubic yards. Despite this unfortunate incident, it’s positive that all those affected stayed safe in the end.
